MURPHY, Athel Jr., age 64, died October 1, 2011. Preceded in death by father, Athel Murphy. Survived by wife, Mi-Kyong Murphy; mother, Georgia Lamb Murphy Grant; Son, Gary Murphy; daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa Murphy; brothers and sisters, Patricia Watson, Sheilah M. Andrews, Tammy Parnell, Dusty Grant, and David Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Gary and Donna Wallace. Athel was a member of Open Door Fellowship Church. He was employed by the state of Tennessee as a meteorologist. He was also a retired veteran of the Air force. Athel was a very well accomplished man with several honors and rewards. Visitation at Madison Funeral Home will be Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday 9:00 until service time at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with pastors Conyer Walker and Joshua Wallace officiating. Pallbearers serving: Ray Parnell, Chris Parnell, Daniel Parnell, Steve Parnell, Walter Slush, Hurbert Carter, Robert Brawner and Mark Hamaker. Soloists Billy Pugh and Gary Wallace.
