Ruby Derryberry

DERRYBERRY, Ruby Belle Carpenter, "Granny", age 96, of Old Hickory, TN., died February 12, 2012. She was born June 10, 1915 in Maury County. She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Jackson Carpenter; mother, Mary Eliza Lovett Carpenter; husband, Newton Dowling Derryberry, Sr.; brother, Robert Lee Carpenter. She is survived by her daughters, Lyndal Derryberry Burch, (Charles, deceased), Pearl Joyce Smith, (Howard, deceased), Gayle Derryberry (Joe)Garrison; son, Newton Dowling (Leah) Derryberry, Jr., eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren six great-great grandchildren, (with three expected, three step-daughters, and six step- grandchildren; all who adored "Granny." She was a special "Aunt Ruby" to numerous nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have a host of devoted friends and neighbors. Ruby was born of humble beginnings on a farm in Match, TN. Her father was a share-cropper. She finished the eighth grade but continued to be self-taught her entire life. She was a Christian and lived her life to let the love of Jesus shine through her. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and loyal friend. She was well known for her generosity, hospitality, good cooking and wonderful sense of humor. She worshipped with the Old Hickory Church of Christ and was considered one of Old Hickory's treasures. She is described in Prov. 31: "Her price is far above rubies….and her children arise up, and call her blessed." Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14 at Madison Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Bro. Don Loftis officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
