Barbara "Babs" Moore left this world on January 11, 2019 after an extended condition.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Cecil Franklin, Jr. and Laura Kate McDonald, as well as by her
sister, Katie Reed.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight T. Moore, Esq., her daughter, Marian Gregory Moore, a niece (Marti Hazelrigg), a nephew (Tres Reed) plus a great-nephew (Jackson) and a great-niece (Maggie).
Babs was born in Jackson, Mississippi; her family relocated to Moss Point, Mississippi in the 1960's, and she graduated from Pascagoula High School. Babs graduated from the Mississippi College of Women, then earned a Master's degree in History from the University of Memphis and then earned a Master's in Library Science from the Indiana University.
She married Dwight Moore on May 7, 1977 in Memphis; she borne one child of the union in 1986. Babs worked as a librarian for the entirety of her career (except as a short stint as a junior high teacher), which included service at the University of Memphis, Laurelwood School, Christian Brothers University, Memphis Theological Seminary, and the Memphis Public Library and Information. She then worked as the Director of the Shelby County Law Library until she retired.
She loved writing poetry and was a student of the Bible. As a librarian, her principle joy was to interact with patrons in helping with reference problems. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats. Babs was a person known to be uplifting, kind, gentle and generous in all walks of her life with a sparkling personality, a contagious laugh and a great sense of humor. Her faith was the core of her being.
Her remains are at Canale Funeral Directors (2700 Union Avenue Extended, Memphis, TN 38112, 901-452-6400, www.canalefuneraldirectors.com ). Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will take place at noon, Friday, January 18, 2019 at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral (700 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38105-4512) with another visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the church. The interment will take place on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., January 21, 2019 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison, Tennessee at a family plot.
