Obituary of Barbara Franklin Moore

Barbara "Babs" Moore left this world on January 11, 2019 after an extended condition.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Cecil Franklin, Jr. and Laura Kate McDonald, as well as by her

sister, Katie Reed.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight T. Moore, Esq., her daughter, Marian Gregory Moore, a niece (Marti Hazelrigg), a nephew (Tres Reed) plus a great-nephew (Jackson) and a great-niece (Maggie).

Babs was born in Jackson, Mississippi; her family relocated to Moss Point, Mississippi in the 1960's, and she graduated from Pascagoula High School. Babs graduated from the Mississippi College of Women, then earned a Master's degree in History from the University of Memphis and then earned a Master's in Library Science from the Indiana University.

She married Dwight Moore on May 7, 1977 in Memphis; she borne one child of the union in 1986. Babs worked as a librarian for the entirety of her career (except as a short stint as a junior high teacher), which included service at the University of Memphis, Laurelwood School, Christian Brothers University, Memphis Theological Seminary, and the Memphis Public Library and Information. She then worked as the Director of the Shelby County Law Library until she retired.

She loved writing poetry and was a student of the Bible. As a librarian, her principle joy was to interact with patrons in helping with reference problems. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats. Babs was a person known to be uplifting, kind, gentle and generous in all walks of her life with a sparkling personality, a contagious laugh and a great sense of humor. Her faith was the core of her being.
