HONEYCUTT, SAM W. - Age 87 of Nashville, passed away on February 14, 2009. He was the son of the late Sam Jones and Ellen Dorris Honeycutt of Sumner County. He is survived by his wife and faithful companion of sixty-two years, Vira Martin Honeycutt; sons Wilburn (Susan) Honeycutt of Brentwood, TN and Luther (Anna Faye) Honeycutt of Johnson City, TN; daughters Marcia (Bill) Horner of LaFollette, TN and Nancy Grear of Franklin, TN; grandchildren Leslie Edgell, Nathan Honeycutt, Ellen Honeycutt, Christopher Honeycutt, Phillip Honeycutt, Josh Horner, Susanna Martino, Elizabeth Horner, Naomi Ewell, and Nikki James. A grandson, Charles "Chucky" Honeycutt preceded him in death. Mr. Honeycutt served proudly in the United States Navy and saw action in both World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a consulting engineer and partner at Henshaw Honeycutt & Lewis and later founded Honeycutt Engineering. His service to others included being the Scoutmaster of Troop 248 Nashville and teaching Sunday school at Tennessee Preparatory School. Visitation will be held Monday 2-8 p.m. and Tuesday at 9:30 - 11 a.m. at Madison Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Madison Funeral Home with burial to follow at the cemetery of Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers will be William Bookout, Josh Horner, Nathan Honeycutt, Phillip Honeycutt, Jimmy Dale Russell, Wayne Martin, and Tim Honeycutt. Dr. William R. Horner will officiate. The family extends its appreciation to the staffs of the skilled nursing units of Bordeaux Long Term Care and the Woodcrest at Blakeford who provided care during his illness. Lasting memorials may be made to the Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Arrangements by MADISON FUNERAL HOME, 219 Old Hickory Blvd., Madison, TN.
